- Approved the promotion of Associate Professor Chansak Apayniphat, a civil servant from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, to the position of Associate Professor in the field of Electrical Engineering, effective from June 16, 2009.
- Approved the criteria for evaluating academic performance in the administrative group for executives, to be applied to academic staff who take on executive roles and later return to their academic positions.
- In conducting research, the university’s policies should be followed as outlined below:
3.1 The drive for research should aim towards the main goals of 3+1, which consist of the following three objectives:
(1) Research Excellence
(2) Research Relevance
(3) Research Productivity
The pursuit of these three objectives must be based on the foundation of research governance. The university should establish clear strategies to promote the key factors that will help achieve each goal, especially the goal of Research Productivity, which should be prioritized. Important factors to consider include:
- 3.1.1 Increasing the number of high-quality researchers significantly.
- 3.1.2 Nurturing new researchers to become “mature” in research as quickly as possible in order to fully utilize their potential.
- 3.1.3 Increasing both the quantity and quality of doctoral theses, based on the principles of excellence and relevance (e.g., theses addressing problems identified by users).
- 3.1.4 Creating a balance between teaching responsibilities and research duties, with the university holding the policy that both teaching and research are equally important.
- 3.1.5 Leveraging researchers from abroad, such as developing collaboration networks with international universities to help nurture postdoctoral researchers.
3.2 The university’s research is considered to have high “relevance,” to the extent that it could be regarded as a “niche” for the university. Therefore, it should be further promoted to stand out even more. However, this initiative must always be based on the principle of excellence in quality. The university may consider establishing a proportion between research for academic excellence and research for relevance at a 30:70 ratio, following the NRU guidelines. Additionally, the university should develop a balanced approach to recognizing both academically excellent research and research with significant impact in terms of “relevance.” This may not necessarily require publication in high-impact factor academic journals.
3.3 The university should view the government’s NRU policy as an opportunity to enhance its research capabilities, aiming to become one of the leading research universities in the country. This includes improving the allocation of research resources, enhancing the quality and quantity of researcher development, advancing both the qualitative and quantitative aspects of research work, and conducting research that aligns with the national strategy and the needs of stakeholders. In particular, it is essential to capitalize on the increasing support from the private sector for research.
